Here's a photo we've just uncovered from our archive of American composer Aaron Copland here in the courtyard at Dartington Hall, when he came here in 1958. Amazing to think we had such an eminent composer casually strolling around during his time working at the Summer School.
This summer you can walk in Copland's footsteps! Our composition courses programme is broader than ever, with courses from one of today's leading American composers, Nico Muhly, including a course working on writing for early instruments with gambist Liam Byrne; meanwhile during the folk /baroque week Aidan O'Rourke leads a folk composition course, focused on melody writing; alt-folk experimental music collective Firefly Burning lead a song writing course; while in the final week of the Summer School we're holding a collaborative composition course brings performers and composers together led by Canadian composer Cassandra Miller, English composer Christopher Fox, with soprano Juliet Fraser and Quatuor Bozzini.
Head to our website to explore the full range of six-week courses this July/August and fill out a booking form: www.dartington.org/summerschool
